Back pain is one of the top reasons for a visit to a health care professional. In fact, almost all of us will experience back pain at some point in our lives. The good news is that only a small portion of the population requires surgery to correct the problem.
One way to help prevent lower back pain and/or ease the pain is through planks. According to Michael McKindley, DPT, in our Costa Mesa office, “they are great because they are easy to perform with no special equipment and can be done to your tolerance. Then, as you get stronger you can hold them longer and then do more of them.
Plus, they have the added benefit of tightening your stomach muscles which can lead to a flatter tummy.
