Focus on orthopedics, neuromuscular disorders and dance

We are pleased to announce the addition of Moira Docherty, DPT, to our physical therapy office in Costa Mesa/Newport Beach. A native of Huntington Beach, she received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from California State University Long Beach. She is currently completing her Pilates apparatus accreditation with Body Arts And Science International (BASI) and is actively incorporating her learned skills in daily treatment sessions.

“We are extremely pleased that such a bright and talented professional like Moira has joined our team,” said Michael McKindley, DPT. “She brings with her an extensive knowledge and understanding of complex movement patterns because of her ballet training that translates well when treating other sports or orthopedic injuries. Combined with her physical therapy background, she is able to apply both disciplines to the benefit her patients.”

Impressive dance background and interest in healing

Moira’s primary focus will be treating patients with sports-related injuries, orthopedic conditions, and movement disorders with an emphasis on injury prevention and education. And, with her extensive dance background, she is uniquely qualified to address dance injuries and treat the overuse and traumatic injuries associated with his demanding discipline.

A trained dancer in jazz, modern, and ballet, she graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Arizona with a B.F.A in dance. Her interest in healing, however, started at a very early age. Inspired by her father, Dr. Richard Docherty, a highly regarded interventional pain management specialist and pioneer in the field. From that background, grew a deep appreciation and understanding of the various ailments associated with the musculoskeletal system.

A long-time association with the Progressive PT family

Moira has actually been a part of the Progressive Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation family for a number of years. Her father has had a long-time professional relationship with both Michael and Kim Marshall, DPT, in the Orange office. In addition, while completing her graduate studies in Long Beach, Moira worked closely with Kim on an oncology rehabilitation study.

“I am extremely excited to be joining Progressive PT,” Moira said. “I know first hand the high-quality of care that they give to their patients. I look forward to being able to contribute in a meaningful way to a team that has earned the trust and respect of both the physicians and the community.”
