Progressive Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, one of Orange County’s premier private outpatient clinics, announced today the opening of a new office in Irvine that will be staffed by Sean Kim, DPT, OCS. Located at 15771 Rockfield Blvd, Suite 150, the office is easily accessible off of McLaren, across the street from the Irvine Auto Center and conveniently located by the 5 and 405 Fwys in the Irvine Spectrum area it was announced by owner Michael McKindley, DPT. They can be reached at 949.750.8499.
“We are excited to open this new clinic to better serve our South County patients that have been traveling to our Costa Mesa/Newport Beach office,” McKindley said. “This will provide another option for care and treatment closer to their homes. Sean, who recently celebrated five years with Progressive PT, is one of the most outstanding physical therapists I have had the pleasure to work with.
“His success comes from his advanced training, ability to understand the goals of each patient, and designing customized programs to improve their functional status and quality of life. I am confident in his abilities and know his level of expertise and skill will be a great addition to the community, our patients as well as being another resource for our referring physicians.”

Established in 2004, Progressive Physical Therapy has earned a reputation for developing personalized treatment programs combining evidence-based science with years of clinical expertise. Specializing in orthopedic and sports rehab, back and chronic pain, musculoskeletal issues along with pre and post-surgical rehab, Progressive treats patients across the generations beginning at 10 years of age.
“I am thrilled with this opportunity to expand Progressive into the Irvine/Lake Forest area,” said Kim who grew up in Orange County and is fluent in Korean. “Many of my patients are delighted that their driving time will be significantly reduced, which is an important issue when you are in pain. I am grateful to Michael for placing his trust in me.”
In addition to traditional physical therapy treatments, Progressive PT has developed advanced specialized programs for youth sports injury prevention and rehabilitation; neurological rehabilitation for Vestibular issues, balance, vertigo, concussion, and Parkinson’s Disease; lymphedema and oncology rehabilitation; dance injury prevention and rehabilitation; along with venous insufficiency and wound care and the recently-established SI Joint Clinic that treats over 100 patients a year.

Kim, a former basketball player at Costa Mesa High School, attended the University of California Irvine where he received a Bachelor’s of Art Degree in international studies. But, it was ankle and knee injuries and his appreciation for the talents of the physical therapist while a high school student that led to an interest in pursuing the profession.
He left Southern California to obtain a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Sacred Heart University in Conn., where he was awarded the Silver Medal of Excellence and was a member of the Honor Society. He continued his education with a residency program in orthopedic physical therapy and obtained an advanced orthopedic physical therapy certificate (OCS). During his residency program, he also served as a clinical instructor and supervised two first-year doctoral students.
The OCS designation is a distinguished honor that is shared by less than 5% of all physical therapists in the United States. Each year the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) recognizes a select few physical therapists who pass a rigorous examination related to their area of expertise to become board-certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialists (OCS). It was established to provide formal recognition for physical therapists with advanced clinical knowledge, experience, and skills in a special area of practice and to assist consumers and the health care community in identifying these physical therapists. Orthopedic Clinical Specialists are experts in evaluating and treating musculoskeletal conditions.
The Irvine clinic will be open daily from 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. primarily serving the communities of Lake Forest, Laguna Hills, Laguna Beach, Laguna Woods, Foothill Ranch, Mission Viejo, San Juan Capistrano, Dana Point, Ladera Ranch, Rancho Santa Margarita, Aliso Viejo, and Tustin. There is ample free parking that is wheelchair accessible. Most major PPOs are accepted along with Medicare, Medi-Medi, Tricare, Workers Comp, and some HealthNet HMO plans.
